As if programming and web development as a day job we are not enough, we also engage in various hobbies, that often result in interesting solutions. Much as Google we encourage our staff to seek new ideas and solutions to everyday problems and tasks. The creativity used for searching for energy savings is very similar to creativity needed to build new and unique web tools.
One of such examples, is Poland's largest social networking website for bookworms. Since one of us wondered if book recommendation could be automated, we have built a system that quickly grew into a huge website having 100 000 registered users, 400 000 unique visitors per month.
We have observed a steady growth of our community since the humble beginnings of 2001, and we are happy that our tool is used by thousands of people happy to use democratic book recommendations instead of lists of bestsellers provided by the big bookshops.
And yes, without too much of boasting, we can say that we have developed a full blown Web 2.0 solution, by the time this term did not even exist yet.
